The majority of Japanese don’t take bath in the morning as they usually prefer to bathe at night before going to bed. Although a morning bath is an uncommon phenomenon in Japan, there are some people that still bathe in the morning. So, you shouldn’t generalize that all Japanese don’t bathe in the morning.
Of course, there are various reasons for preferring a night bath. Foremost, a long, relaxing night bath has become a ritual in Japan. Lots of people spend several minutes in the bathroom as they perform this ritual at night. Besides, the winter mornings can be very cold in Japan. Hence, many people will avoid taking bath in the morning and wait until the night to do so.
Also, the work ethic in Japan is quite different from most other places around the world. Many people go to work early; hence, they may not have enough time to enjoy a long, relaxing bath in the morning. Therefore, they would rather bathe in the night when they have time to enjoy the activity.
Furthermore, night baths help to get rid of sweat, dirt, and other things accumulated during the day. So, it is quite reasonable to bathe at night and skip bathing the following morning.
What Makes Japanese People Love Taking a Bath at Night
Before leaving for work in the morning, most people take a shower. Unlike Western culture, many other cultures, including Japanese, consider it disrespectful to be untidy at the office. Showering differs from bathing in that you take a shower to wash yourself whereas bathing is supposed to relax you.
Known for their punctuality, the Japanese prefer to relax and clean themselves well the night before so they can spend less time getting ready in the morning. Take note, this is not intended to generalise, as many still like to. A quick shower in the morning follows a long bath the previous night. However, if you live in the harsh Japanese winter, you might have a hard time taking a morning shower because the cold can cause shivers.
If you were to describe your typical bathing schedule, what would it be? At the beginning of the day or at the end of the day? Have you ever taken a bath both in the morning and at night regardless of the season? No matter how unusual, the Japanese know how to relax in a better way, so they need to be appreciated for their bathing culture.
