Today I would like to present greetings in Japanese. I think you guys have heard the word “Hello” in Japanese so many times . Japanese people use greetings similar to greetings in English.
Let’s start with a Basic Japanese greeting.
- おはようございます (Ohayo gozaimasu) Good morning
- こんにちは (Konnichiwa) Good Afternoon
- こんばんは (Kombanwa) Good Evening
- おやすみ(なさい)(Oyasumi (nasai) Good Night
- はじめまして、(Hajimemashite. Nice to meet you
What is the Japanese greeting?
おはようございます
(Ohayo gozaimasu)

Did you know ?
Usually thought to be the same word but abbreviated. “If you wake up early It’s good for your health”, “It’s morning already”, or “Come early, please bother” something more. Using 「おはよう」(Ohayo) can be used with family, close friends, not with adults. or people who are not at all close
こんにちは
(Konnichiwa)
Meaning: Good Afternoon
Importance point : 「こんにちは」(Konnichiwa) is a word used for good afternoon ,Japanese greetings tend to have slightly different accents. When You write in hiragana こんにちは “は” is normally pronounce “Ha” But in this case you have to pronounce “Wa”
こんばんは
(Kombanwa)
Meaning : Good Evening
Importance point : 「こんばんは」 (Kombanwa) is an evening greeting. The pronunciation, as far as we can understand, is similar to the one above, “konbanwa”, descending in a low tone.
おやすみ(なさい)
(Oyasumi (nasai)

Importance point : 「おやすみなさい」 (Oyasuminasai) is a good night greeting. used to say before going to bed “Good night”
For your close friend You can say it as short as 「おやすみ」(Oyasumi), depending on the level of relationship between the speaker and the person speaking.
What is the difference between “Ohayo” and “Konnichiwa” and “Kombanwa”
Ohayou or Ohayo gozaimasu is when you say “good morning” to someone (ohayou gozaimasu is the most polite way to say it). Konnichiwa can be a “Hi” or “Good afternoon”! Can say both seniors or your friends. Konnichiwa is Good evening
