Japanese Meaning of はっきり (hakkiri)

It is essential to learn Japanese vocabulary when studying the language. In addition to words borrowed from other languages, Japanese vocabulary is vast and diverse. Learning essential words and phrases, as well as specialized terminology and idiomatic expressions, is essential for effective communication in Japanese.

Japanese Vocabulary: はっきり

Meaning: ”clearly,” “distinctly,” “plainly,” or “definitely.” 

It is often used to express that something is obvious or easy to understand.

Examples

  1. 今日は山がはっきり見える。 You can see the mountains clearly today.  
  2. この際はっきり言っておきます。 I’d like to take this opportunity to speak frankly.  
  3. 両者の違いははっきりしている。 The difference between the two is clear.  
  4. 日本は四季がはっきりしています。 The four seasons are clearly defined in Japan.  
  5. 不満があるなら、はっきり言うべきだ。 If you are unsatisfied, you should say so clearly.  
  6. 晴れた日は富士山がはっきり見えます。 On clear days, Mt. Fuji can be seen clearly.  
  7. あの人はいつも自分の意見をはっきり言う。 That person always expresses his opinions clearly.  
  8. 彼女は、彼氏にはっきりと嫌いだと言った。 She told her boyfriend flat out that she hated him.  
  9. 言いたいことがあるならはっきり言ってよ。 If you have something to say, just say it.  
  10. その女性は、額にはっきりとしたシワがある。 The woman has clear wrinkles on her forehead.  
  11. 父は鈍いから、はっきり言わないと分からない。 My father is dim, so he won’t understand if you don’t say it clearly.
