Japanese Meaning of 厳しい (kibishii) | JLPT N4

Japanese Vocabulary: 厳しい

Meaning: “strict” or “severe.”

It can be used to describe a person who is strict or severe in their manner or behavior, or it can be used to describe a situation that is strict or severe in nature. 

For example,   厳しい規則 (きびしいきそく) means strict rules

厳しい試験 (きびしいしけん) means strict examination

  10. 厳しい基準のもとで、彼は合格した。(Under strict criteria, he passed.)
