Japanese Vocabulary: 外 (そと)
Meaning: “outside” or “exterior.”
An individual or thing that is not a member of a particular group or organization can also be referred to as an outsider.
As an example, an organization might have an insiders group and an outsiders group, the latter called “soto.” It can also refer to something geographical such as “outside of the city” or “outside of the country”.
