Japanese Meaning of 寒い (samui) | JLPT N5

Japanese Vocabulary:   寒い

Meaning: cold

It can be used to describe the temperature or to describe a person who feels cold. 

For example, you might say 寒いですね (samui desu ne) to express that it is cold, or 寒いよ (samui yo) to tell someone that they look cold.

  1. 今日はまじ寒い。 Today is seriously cold!  
  2. カナダは寒いです。 It’s cold in Canada.  
  3. この部屋は寒いです。 It’s cold in this room.
  4. 今夜はとても寒いです。 It is very cold tonight.  
  5. 今日はとても寒いです。 It’s very cold today.  
  6. 冬だから、寒いんです。 Because it is winter, it is cold.  
  7. 北海道は冬が寒いです。 Winter is cold in Hokkaido.
