Japanese Meaning of 最初 (saisho) | JLPT N4

Japanese Vocabulary: 最初

Meaning:  “first” or “initial.”

  1. 最初に生まれた息子 first-born son  
  2. 最初に皮を剥いて。 First you have to peel the skin.  
  3. 何事も最初が肝心だ。 Whatever you do, how you start is the essential thing.  
  4. 最初は誰でも初心者だ。 Everyone is a beginner at first.  
  5. 彼女は最初は大人しかった。 She was quiet at first.  
  6. 最初、私は犬が嫌いでした。 I hated dogs at first.  
  7. まず最初に君が謝るのが筋だ。 It would be reasonable for you to apologize first.  
  8. 5ページの最初を見てください。 Please look at the beginning of page 5.  
  9. もう一回最初からやってみたら? Why don’t you try it again from the beginning?
