Japanese Meaning of 本当 (ほんとう) hontou

Meaning: “truly” or “really”

The Japanese word “本当 (ほんとう) hontou” means “truly” or “really” in English.

  2. これは本当の話です。 This is a true story.

  6. 彼女は本当に美人だ。 She is a real beauty.  
  7. 本当だ。どうしよう。 Really? What should I do?  
  8. 本当に そう 思う? Do you really think that way? = Do you really think so?  
  9. 本当に、そうですね。 It really is, isn’t it?  
  10. 本当にごめんなさい。 I’m really sorry.  
  11. 本当にそうですよね。 That really is true, isn’t it?
