Japanese Meaning of 浅い (asai) | JLPT N4

Japanese Vocabulary: 浅い (asai)

Meaning: “shallow,” “superficial,” “not deep,” or “not profound.” 

It can be used to describe things such as water, emotions, or understanding.

  1. この川は浅いです。 This river is shallow.  
  2. プールの浅い所へ行った。 I went to the shallow end of the pool.  
  3. この湖はほとんど浅いと思う。 This lake is mostly shallow, I think.  
  4. この川は浅いので、子供も遊べます。 This river is shallow, so children can play in it.  
  5. このイルカは、普通、水が浅い場所にはあまり行かないようです。 It seems that, usually, this dolphin does not go very often into places where the water is shallow.
