Japanese Meaning of 違う (chigau) | JLPT N5

Japanese Vocabulary:   違う

Meaning: different” or “not the same

It is often used to express that something is not as expected or not what was previously thought.

Example :

  1. これは私の本ではありません。違う本を持っています。 (This is not my book. I have a different book.)
  2. 今日の天気は昨日と違います。 (Today’s weather is different from yesterday’s.)
  3. 彼女は以前と違って、髪を短く切りました。 (She cut her hair short, which is different from before.)
  4. このレストランの料理は他のレストランと違います。 (The food at this restaurant is different from other restaurants.)
  5. 私たちの考え方はお互い違います。 (Our ways of thinking are different from each other.)
