Japanese Meaning of 開始 (かいし) kaishi

It is essential to learn Japanese vocabulary when studying the language. In addition to words borrowed from other languages, Japanese vocabulary is vast and diverse. Learning essential words and phrases, as well as specialized terminology and idiomatic expressions, is essential for effective communication in Japanese.

Japanese Vocabulary: 開始 (かいし)

Meaning: “beginning” or “start.” 

Whenever a process or event begins, it is used to indicate the start of that process or event.

Examples

  1. 運動会は9時開始です。 The sports festival begins at nine o’clock.  
  2. 運動会は9時開始です。 The sports festival begins at nine o’clock.  
  3. インタビューを開始します。 I’ll start the interviews.  
  4. ドキドキしながら開始した。 Feeling nervous, I started (the babysitting).  
  5. 9時からテストを開始します。 We’ll start the test at 9.  
  6. 試合は午後一時に開始される。 The match begins at 1 p.m.  
  7. ドキドキしながらの開始だった。 It was a nervous start (“it was a start in which I was nervous”).  
  8. 新しいプロジェクトが開始した。 A new project has been launched.  
  9. 来週からボランティア開始だ~。 I start volunteering next week!  
  10. 明日からは、ボランティア開始だ。 Volunteering starts tomorrow.  
  11. 朝10時より、試合を開始します。 The game will start at 10 a.m.
