Japanese Meaning of 音 (oto) | JLPT N4

Japanese Vocabulary: 音

Meaning: “sound” or “tone.”

It is often used in combination with other characters to form words related to sound or music, such as 音楽 (おんがく), which means “music,” and 音符 (おんぷ), which means “musical note.” 

音 can also refer to the pronunciation or sound of a word or character.

 For example, 発音 (はつおん) means “pronunciation,” and 発音する (はつおんする) means “to pronounce.”

  3. 何の音ですか。 What was that noise?
