JLPT N2 Kanji: 線 (sen) Meaning: line; track

It is essential to learn Japanese vocabulary when studying the language. In addition to words borrowed from other languages, Japanese vocabulary is vast and diverse. Learning essential words and phrases, as well as specialized terminology and idiomatic expressions, is essential for effective communication in Japanese.

Japanese Vocabulary: 線 (sen)

Meaning: Line; track 

The kanji 線 (sen) typically means “line” or “thread. It is a N2 level Kanji in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT). 

It can also be used in compounds to represent words related to lines, such as train tracks (鉄道線, tetsudō-sen), or telephone lines (電話線, denwa-sen).

  1. 文字を書くとき、直線を引くためにはルーラーが便利です。 (When writing characters, a ruler is useful for drawing straight lines.)
  2. 私は絵に赤い線を描いています。(I am drawing a red line in the picture.)
  3. 電車は鉄道線を走っています。 (The train is running on railway lines.)
  4. この線は長さが5メートルです。 (This line is 5 meters long.)
  5. 線路工事で、道路がいくつか線路に挟まれている。(There are several roads sandwiched between the lines of the railway construction.)
