JLPT N3 Grammar: まさか (masaka) Meaning

“surely not” or “impossible”

It is often used to express surprise or disbelief.

Form :

まさか + phase

Examples:

  1. まさか彼がやったんじゃないよね? No way. He didn’t do that, did he?  
  2. まさか車が当たるとは思わなかった。 I never imagined I would win a car.  
  3. まさか宿題を忘れたんじゃないでしょうね。 Please don’t tell me that you forgot your homework.
