JLPT N4 Grammar: が必要 (hitsuyou) Meaning

The grammar point 「が必要」(hitsuyou) is used to express that something is necessary or required. It is commonly translated as “need” or “must”.

Here is an example sentence using 「が必要」:

明日のテストには、私たちは新しいテキストを買うことが必要です。

In this sentence, 「新しいテキストを買うこと」(buying a new textbook) is necessary for the test tomorrow.

To use 「が必要」in a sentence, you can follow this pattern:

(Thing that is necessary) + が必要 + (reason or context)

For example:

日本語のテストには、日本語の辞書が必要です。(For the Japanese test, a Japanese dictionary is necessary.)

私たちの会社は、新しい営業マンが必要です。(Our company needs a new salesperson.)
