JLPT N4 Grammar: てほしい (te hoshii) Meaning

JLPT N4 Grammar: てほしい (te hoshii) Meaning

The grammar particle “てほしい” is used to express a desire or request for someone to do something. It is formed by combining the te-form of a verb with the adjective “ほしい” which means “wanted” or “desired.”

  1. うそをついた訳を教えてほしい。 I want you to tell me the reason you lied.  
  2. これが悪い夢なら覚めてほしい。 If this is a bad dream, I want to wake up from it.  
  3. 毎日お弁当を作ってほしいです。 I want you to make me a bento every day.  
  4. 私が言ったことを考えてほしい。 I want you to think about what I said.  
  5. あの女の人みたいになってほしい。 I want you to be like that woman.  
  6. ありのままの私を愛してほしいの。 I want you to love me for who I am.  
  7. 一緒に食べに行ってほしいんです。 I want you to go out to eat with me.  
  8. お昼までに、ここに来てほしいです。 I want you to come here by noon.  
  9. 明日までにまた連絡してほしいです。 I would like you to contact me again tomorrow.  
  10. 洗濯したり、掃除したりしてほしい。 I need you to do things like laundry and cleaning.
