JLPT N4 Grammar: ようになる (you ni naru) Meaning

JLPT N4 Grammar: ようになる (you ni naru) Meaning

The phrase “ようになる (yō ni naru)” is used in Japanese grammar to indicate a change or transformation. The word means “to become,” “to start,” or “to come into existence.”

Form :

Verb (dictionary form) ようになる

Verb (ない form)

Examples:

  1. ピアノが弾けるようになりたい! I want be able to play the piano!  
  2. 息子が私に反抗するようになった My son started to rebel against me.  
  3. あんな風に踊れるようになりたい。 I wish that I could dance like that.  
  4. お支払いはどのようになさいますか。 How would you like to (“how will you”) make the payment?  
  5. 包丁を研ぐとよく切れるようになります If you sharpen it, the kitchen knife cuts well.  
  6. あの日から彼女は彼を嫌悪するようになった From that day, she came to dislike him.  
  7. 君のようになりたがっている人が居ますよ。 There are people that are wanting to become 大地震以降、水を買っておくようになった。 Since the big earthquake, I make sure to buy water.  
  8. 前より早く日本語が理解できるようになった。 I’m able to understand Japanese faster than before.  
  9. 彼はやっと人並みの生活ができるようになった He was finally able to live a normal life.
