It refers to the continuation of the same state without any change.

Form :

V(タ形 / ナイ形) + まま

イAい + まま

ナAな + まま

Nの + まま

Examples:

  1. チェーンもされたままだ。 The chain was still set too.  
  2. 動物は本能のまま動くね。 Animals act purely on instinct.  
  3. 彼女はわがままな性格だ。 She is selfish.  
  4. 彼女は無言のまま頷いた。 She nodded in silence.  
  5. 電気がついたままですよ。 The light is still on.  
  6. 電気が付いたままですよ。 The light is still on.  
  7. 子供のわがままを叱ったの。 I scolded my kid for being selfish.  
  8. 彼女は素顔のままでも美しい She is beautiful even without makeup.  
  9. ありのままを話してください。 Please tell me the story as it is.
