JLPT N5 Grammar: たり~たり

たり~たりis a grammatical structure in Japanese that is used to list things or actions. It is similar to the English structure “and” or “or~or”.

Form

Verb-た + り ~ Verb-た + り + する

Noun + だったり ~ Noun + だったり

い-adj + かったり ~ い-adj + かったり

な-adj + だったり ~ な-adj + だったり

Example sentence

  1. 掃除をしたり、洗濯したりした。 I did things like cleaning and the laundry.
  2. 家でゲームをしたり、食べたりした。 At home, I did things like play video games and ate.
  3. もう晩ごはんを作ったり、洗い物したりした。 I already did things like make dinner and do the dishes.
  4. 踊ったり、音楽を聞いたりするのが好きです。 I like dancing, listening to music, and so forth.
  5. 彼女は本を読んだり、テニスをしたりするのが好きです。She likes to read books and play tennis.
  6. 学校で勉強したり、家でプログラミングをしたりしています。 I am studying at school and programming at home.
