Japanese Vocabulary: なあ/な
Meaning: a particle at the end of a sentence; confirmation; admiration
Examples:
- いいなあ。 That’s so nice. (See note on _naa_ as well.)
- 寂しいなあ。 How lonesome..
- 泣けてくるなあ。 That brings me to tears. (“One comes to break down in tears.”)
- お腹が空いたなあ。 gee, I am hungry!
- 海で泳ぎたいなあ。 I want to swim in the sea.
- 良い教科書だなあ。 This is a great textbook!
- あの人はケチだなあ。 Damn, isn’t that guy stingy!
- 僕も彼女が欲しいなあ。 I also want a girlfriend.
- ７袋あれば足りるかなあ。 I wonder if seven bags will be enough?
- ああいう服が着たいなあ。 I wish I could wear something like that.
- あの2人、大丈夫かなあ。 I hope they will be okay.
- この計算は面倒臭いなあ。 This calculation is troublesome.
