JLPT N5 Grammar: なあ/な (naa /na) particle meaning

It is essential to learn Japanese vocabulary when studying the language. In addition to words borrowed from other languages, Japanese vocabulary is vast and diverse. Learning essential words and phrases, as well as specialized terminology and idiomatic expressions, is essential for effective communication in Japanese.

Japanese Vocabulary: なあ/な

Meaning: a particle at the end of a sentence; confirmation; admiration

Examples:

  1. いいなあ。 That’s so nice. (See note on _naa_ as well.)  
  2. 寂しいなあ。 How lonesome..  
  3. 泣けてくるなあ。 That brings me to tears. (“One comes to break down in tears.”)  
  4. お腹が空いたなあ。 gee, I am hungry!  
  5. 海で泳ぎたいなあ。 I want to swim in the sea.  
  6. 良い教科書だなあ。 This is a great textbook!  
  7. あの人はケチだなあ。 Damn, isn’t that guy stingy!  
  8. 僕も彼女が欲しいなあ。 I also want a girlfriend.  
  9. 7袋あれば足りるかなあ。 I wonder if seven bags will be enough?  
  10. ああいう服が着たいなあ。 I wish I could wear something like that.  
  11. あの2人、大丈夫かなあ。 I hope they will be okay.  
  12. この計算は面倒臭いなあ。 This calculation is troublesome.  
  13. 日本語の先生は優しいなあ。 wow, isnt my Japanese professor nice!  
  14. 早く週末にならないかなあ。 The weekend can’t come quick enough.  
  15. 景色の良い部屋が良いなあ。 I’d like a room with a good view.
