Meaning: half

“Hen” (han) is an irradiated character meaning “semi-finished.” It can also refer to words like “halfway” or “semi-finished.”

Examples:

  1. 今、六時半です。 It’s half past six now.  
  2. トムは上半身裸だ。 Tom is shirtless.  
  3. 中途半端にするな。 Don’t leave things unfinished.  
  4. 今 2時半 です。 It’s now half past two.  
  5. 今午前十時半です。 It’s 10:30 a.m. now.  
  6. 八時半に おきた。 I got up at half past eight.  
  7. 1時間半かかりますよ It’s going to take an hour and a half.  
  8. これは、半分だろう。 This is half, right?  
  9. チェック柄の半ズボン checkered shorts  
  10. 夫は四十代半ばです。 My husband is in his mid-forties.
