「ている」(te iru) is a Japanese grammar pattern that is used to express a continuing state or action. It is the progressive form of the verb
Form
1.Conjugate the verb to its present progressive form
Examples:
食べている means “to be eating.”
寝ている means “to be sleeping.”
話している means “to be talking.”
2.You can use this form to describe something that is happening right now, or something that has been happening for a period of time and is still continuing.
Examples:
私は今、本を読んでいます。I am reading a book now.”
彼女は昨日から熱があって、寝ています。She has had a fever since yesterday and has been sleeping.”

- 今日は雨が降っているから、傘を持っていきましょう。
It’s raining today, so let’s bring an umbrella.
