There are a ton of activities available depending on what kind of traveler you are. Whether you are more into adventures, or you like to get to know the culture more or you are into gastronomy and trying new local foods.

  1. Visit the Studio Ghibli Museum

The Studio Ghibli movies are very popular and beautiful Japanese movies. You probably have heard about them. It is located in Inokashira Park in Mitaka, which is the city of Tokyo. The museum offers a combination of a children’s museum, technology, and fine arts so it is recommended for people of all ages.

  • Try the Kawaii Monster Café

This is a very popular place located in the Harajuku area and it offers an unforgettable dining experience. The whole café was designed by a famous designer named Masuda Sebastian. There are 4 main different areas of the café to try out: MUSHROOM DISCO, the MILK STAND, the BAR Experiment, and the Mel-tea ROOM. All of these rooms are decorated accordingly to their themes and they are all very mainstream.

Japan is famous for its capsule hotels which are tiny rooms with only a twin bed in them and a little storage space. If you would like to try something new, this is definitely a great idea, not to mention that they are very cheap for a night so they can be very convenient if you don’t want to spend a lot on accommodation.

  • Visit a bamboo forest in Kyoto

If you like nature and wish to discover Japan’s most beautiful places nature-wise, then visiting a bamboo-forest is a good idea. The Sagano Bamboo Forest has lots of bamboo trees that are dozens of feet tall and it will definitely be a memorable and special experience.

  • Visit Tokyo’s oldest temple

It is located in the historic center of the city, which is also a great area to discover Japanese traditions. The temple is called Sensoji Temple and you will fall in love with its design and special structure and beautiful colors.

  • Taste fresh seafood at Tsukiji Fish Market

If you love trying out new things especially local foods like fish, you will love this market. It is known to be the world’s biggest wholesale market. It is located in Tokyo, but later it got relocated to Toyosu-Market.

There are lots of shops and restaurants in the area, all offering various options for fresh seafood and fish. 

  • Visit Owl café or Hedgehog café 

Both of these cafes offer delicious coffee but more importantly, they have cute animals. They let you touch the owls that are very friendly, not to mention the little hedgehogs, you can touch and play with them.

  • Try a cooking class

If are into Japanese gastronomy and if you like cooking, you should definitely consider taking a cooking class. Whether it is sushi or some other type of Japanese food like ramen or dumplings, you will have fun and you will learn something new which is a great thing to do while you are in Japan.

  • Visit Ueno Park

Ueno Park is located in the Asakusa area, and it is one of the biggest parks in Tokyo. It has lots of great facilities like museums, zoos, and historical monuments. This park is very attractive especially in the cherry blossom season when it is the most beautiful.

This is another one for animal lovers. Zao Fox Village has lots of undomesticated foxes. These cute animals sprint in circles around visitors and they can also get very close to you. Also, visitors that are over 12 years old, can pet and hold the baby foxes.

Geishas are some of the most beautiful aspects of Japan. You can watch a performance at one of the annual dances that take place in autumn or spring. It is a great opportunity to take a closer look at their beautiful kimonos and hairstyle not to mention their iconic white makeup. If you get a chance to attend one of these performances, it will be a great experience you will never forget.
