The kanji 文 (bun or mon) has several meanings, including “sentence,” “literature,” “culture,” and “writing.” It can also be used as a suffix to indicate a field of study

  2. 彼女は文系です。 She’s in the humanities department.  
  3. お客様、ご注文は? Are you ready to order, sir/ma’am?  
  4. ロシア文学を読む。 I read Russian literature.  
  5. 先生が教えた文法。 Grammar taught by the teacher.  
  6. 父は横文字が苦手だ My father can’t read European languages.  
  7. この文は現在形です。 This sentence is in the present tense.  
  8. わかめそばを注文した I ordered soba noodles with seaweed.  
  9. 彼女は文科の学生です She is a student in the school of liberal arts.  
  10. 注文をお願いします。 May I order, please.  
  11. 瓶ビールを注文した。 I ordered a bottle of beer.
